The Original Collection SG Standard '61 is based on Gibson's legendary, double-cut follow-up to the original 1961 Les Paul. Here, the mahogany neck has been set-in and bound into the body, laying down maximum resonance and a classic and warm foundation sound to support the mounted pair of Burstbucker double-coil pickups. This combo not only delivers timeless old-school rock sound, but the tone that helped lay the groundwork for metal as we know it. This irresistible edition of the myth-making Gibson SG comes complete with a form-fitting hardcase and a fistful of tasty accessories.
The SG Standard '61: Armed With 60s Burstbuckers
Once familiar with the tonal range of this refined monster, you're likely to rely on the lush and thick output provided by the humbucker at the bridge for much of the heavy lifting, and reserve the generous, thick layer of cream offered by the neck pickup for leads and licks. Both Burstbuckers have a touch more bite than comparable modern PAF-based humbuckers, and via the three-way pickup switch, they can be isolated or combined to unleash the formidable beef this model is so renowned for. However it's dialled in, the tone is fully reinforced by entirely hand wired electronics - all the way from the switch, to the four pots, and the Orange Drop capacitors.
A SlimTaper Neck, ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic Bridge & Maestro Vibrola Tailpiece
Harking back to the tried-and-tested feel of a classic sixties Gibson, the SG Standard '61 has been given a flatter SlimTaper neck profile as well as a 12 inch radius, 22-fret rosewood fretboard. The larger medium jumbo frets ease the load on the fret-hand and combine with the extra reach afforded by the double-cut body for a superbly comfy playing feel. Stable tuning and intonation is assured by a set of Deluxe Keystone tuners, an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, and a GraphTech nut, but the chocolate sprinkles on top of this treat of a guitar definitely lie in the stunning Maestro Vibrola tailpiece.

Erg goede gitaar, mooi helder en tegelijk warm geluid en ziet er ook nog eens prachtig uit. Gibson levert deze gitaren niet zo heel goed afgesteld af, dus je moet hem wel even een setup laten geven door Bax. Dat doen ze zowel heel snel als heel goed en werd als after sales service gratis aangeboden. De gitaar speelde daarna geweldig. Zeer tevreden.
Fantastische gitaar. Blijft zeer goed in stemming ondanks de maestro vibrola. Gitaar helemaal speelklaar gemaakt en geïntoneerd in de winkel. Hals is zeer comfortabel. Precies tussen dik en smal in. De gitaar ook lekker licht. Wil je een goedkopere optie dan een les paul standard, dan is dit jouw gitaar!
Zeer mooie gitaar, zeer mooi afgewerkt en de prachtige structuur van het hout is erg goed zichtbaar door de lak heen. Gitaar was prima afgesteld en speelt heerlijk. Enige minpuntje is een kleine beschadiging aan de headstock net boven de nut. Maar omdat de rest van de gitaar werkelijk smetteloos is afgewerkt ruil ik hem niet meer in (andere exemplaren waren veel minder mooi afgewerkt).
Daarnaast moet je zorgen dat de schroeven van de Virbola afdekking echt stevig vast zitten anders ratelt de kap bij het aanslaan van een snaar. Voor bovenstaande punten daarom een ster aftrek.
De heerlijke geur van de nitro is een mooie bonus!
Met de service van Bax ben ik ook erg tevreden, snelle en correcte levering! Dit was de tweede gitaar welke ik bij Bax besteld heb!

Wat een ervaring, gitaar speelt soepel en zeer licht. Geluid is wat je mag verwachten van een Gibson SG, helder als je wilt maar grommend en rauw als je naar je brug element schakelt en uiteraard je favoriete pedaal activeert (voor mij een Fuzz of tubescreamer). Bestelling bij Bax ging zeer soepel, gitaar eerst ruim kunnen testen en voelen in de ruimte in Amsterdam, overleg gehad hoe te bestellen en daarna online besteld. Levering binnen 3 dagen, bij Bax in Amsterdam laten leveren zodat de gitaar (nadat ik zelf de doos mocht open maken) werd gecheckt waarna ik hem naar huis kon nemen. Prima geholpen door de medewerkers en dus zeer tevreden.
